Government scheme rewards renewable energy users

A new government scheme dubbed the Renewable Heating Incentive (RHI) could help business insurance policyholders reduce overheads while helping the environment. Energy & Environmental Management Magazine reported on two UK businesses using renewable energy which have lowered their energy bills by taking advantage of Ofgem's RHI scheme.
Broadgate Farm Cottages in East Yorkshire and Booth Brothers in Sheffield have both become entitled to support from the government after their low carbon heat schemes were approved. The two companies have installed heat pumps to provide underfloor heating to their properties. Now they will receive fixed payments every quarter for the amount of renewable energy they generate.
The RHI scheme aims to bring down the UK's carbon emissions and help it to reach its renewable energy targets. There is a total of £860 million set aside for the RHI tariff payments, so business insurance customers should act fast if they want to join the scheme.
Grants are available for equipment and companies can use the money saved to help pay for other overheads, like rent and business insurance, or invest it back into the business. Go to Ofgem's website ( www.ofgem.gov.uk ) and search for RHI to find out how you can join the scheme.
