Even good weather can bring bad news
The hot spell at the end of May this year caused problems for O2 and their customers.
When the air conditioning failed at one of their computing centres in Croydon they had no alternative to shut some the systems down. This caused network problems in areas of the UK for several hours. Last June the same problem hit a data centre run by Level 3 and as a result music website Last.fm was offline for a number of hours.
The summer heat can cause unexpected other problems and businesses are urged to put plans in place to recover from likely disasters. Business insurance can play a part in those plans, providing valuable funds that can, for example, pay for moves to temporary premises or hire replacement personnel.
But these plans should include all sorts of other provisions. It could be backup power supplies, duplicate computers standing by, doubling up on communications links or any one of a number of emergency provisions. Real insurance for business is about proper preparation and plans, not only getting cheap business insurance quotes.
