Entrepreneurs offered government buildings as offices

Posted on January 24th 2012

Certain companies could have more money to pay overheads like business insurance and energy bills. This was after David Cameron announced that unused government buildings will be let at a low rate to new companies.

The Telegraph reported on this surprise move by the Prime Minister during a visit to the northeast. He revealed that over 300 premises around the country will be made available for businesses that need them most.

Cuts in public spending have left government workers without jobs, and once busy offices now lie empty. Mr Cameron wants to utilise the wasted space by letting new businesses rent offices in government buildings while they are waiting to be sold.

New enterprises and business insurance policyholders who operate small firms will be given priority when deciding who gets to use the low rent spaces. The initiative aimed at helping new businesses will also put money back into the Treasury, at a time when government finances are in need of a boost.

To coincide with the low rent office scheme, the Prime Minister launched a campaign aimed at getting people to start their own businesses called 'The Business In You.' Advice and guidance will be offered to entrepreneurs in the hope that more new businesses will flourish in the coming year.

If the Prime Minister's plans are a success, the business insurance industry could experience a boost in revenue as more companies take out policies to protect themselves.
